Major investment continues at Forfar Golf Club
Forfar Golf Club is preparing to enter the next phase of a major investment programme after its operators revealed that nearly 30 new jobs have been created since major change in its running earlier this year.
Members voted in March to enter into a new partnership with The Ancient Links Golf Company (ALGC) over the running of the 155-year-old club.

Since then, the club has been subject to a major investment in its course and facilities.
Projects currently under way include improvements to the clubhouse, a redesign of the pro shop and a cutting edge irrigation system.
The course holds a unique place in the history of golf, as it was the world’s first 18-hole course from its inception.
It was originally laid out by Old Tom Morris and redesigned in 1926 by five-time Open Champion James Braid.
The ‘Braid’s Best’ 15th hole at Forfar has already been restored to its original layout in the work already completed under the new arrangement.
Meanwhile, all of the course’s 78 bunkers have been excavated, reshaped and renovated.
There has also been significant investment in the club’s fleet of greenkeeping machinery.
A dedicated junior changing area has also been created in the revamped locker room facilities.
The club’s successful junior golf programme currently involves more than 160 young people.
The most significant on-course investment will be the installation of a completely new and state-of-the-art irrigation system to provide greater precision and control and deliver the highest standards of course presentation.
And an extensive winter works programme is planned ahead of the 2027 season. ALGC said that since the partnership began in March, 28 new jobs have been created.
The business is also currently waiting a decision over its proposals to take over Montrose Links.
It plans to invest £3 million over the first five years of a long-term £30,000-a-year lease.
A public consultation closed last month and a report on the outcome and the plan is being prepared for consideration by a full meeting of Angus Council.
