Forfar were beaten 3-2 by Gary Naysmith’s side but, despite the defeat, the Station Park side remain in second place in League Two, one point above third placed Annan Athletic and nine ahead of Edinburgh City in fourth.

The match was hastily rearranged for the start of the week after being originally scheduled for Saturday.

Storm Malik, though, forced that and others on the east side of the country to be postponed.

Hutton is now set to play his part in Forfar’s run-in towards the end of the season.

The experienced midfielder, who will celebrate his 31st birthday on Saturday, began his senior career with Rangers, making his first-team debut for the Ibrox club in 2010.

He would go on to make over 50 appearances before moving on in 2015.

Hutton has also represented Partick Thistle, Dunfermline Athletic, Queen of the South and St Mirren.

More recently he has spent time with East Kilbride and Cowdenbeath.

The 30-year-old, who also represented Scotland at under 19 and under 21 levels, has signed an 18 month deal at Station Park and he will be in Gary Irvine’s pool for the visit of Albion Rovers on Saturday when he will hope to celebrate his birthday with a three-point haul.

Manager Irvine has also signed Tomas Brindley on-loan from Kilmarnock.
