The trust has been a part of Montrose’s history for almost 200 years, but currently practises under a very different ethos.

Authenticity, bravery, compassion, integrity, and togetherness are the fundamental principles for the children and young people in its care.

Working with young people, up to 18 years old, who have been exposed to multiple adverse childhood experiences resulting in many complex needs and vulnerabilities, it focus on rehabilitation and giving young people the care to build resilience.

It also offers them training opportunities through Dundee and Angus College, so they are equipped to have happy and healthy lives once they leave the trust’s care.

Ms Black said said: “A huge privilege of my role as MSP is to get to know those who do fantastic work within my constituency, so it was great to meet the people who are running Rossie.

“It’s important to change perceptions and recognise the integral part organisations like Rossie play when it comes to caring for young people who have grown up in adverse circumstances and suffered as a consequence.

“Rossie offers these young people a nurturing environment to thrive and become the best versions of themselves. I really look forward to working with them.”

A spokesperson for the trust said the MSP’s visit and interest in its work had been welcome.

They said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome Dawn Black to Rossie and would like to express our sincere thanks for taking the time to visit and spend time with our young people and staff.

“Her warmth, interest and willingness to listen made a real impression, and the visit provided a valuable opportunity for young people to share their experiences, ambitions and achievements.

“Our young people thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with her, and took great pride in showcasing their talents, aspirations and the positive progress they are making.

“Visits such as this help young people feel heard, valued and connected to the wider community.

“We are incredibly grateful for Dawn’s support and interest in the work of Rossie and look forward to building a strong and positive relationship with her in the years ahead.”

Kevin Northcott, Rossie chief executive, added: “It was a privilege to welcome Dawn to Rossie.

“Her enthusiasm, encouragement and commitment to listening to their voices was greatly appreciated.

“Our young people are talented, resilient and full of potential, and opportunities like this allow them to be seen and heard by those who can help shape the future.”
