Mo boss praises 3-0 win as 'fantastic result'

Peterhead co-manager Ryan Strachan described it as a “horrendous day” as his side lost 3-0 at a storm-lashed Montrose in League One.

The visitors were behind after only three minutes when they failed to deal with a Jamie Barjonas corner and Jake Sutherland turned the ball in from six yards out.

Peterhead tried to hit back as Andy McCarthy fired over, but found themselves further behind in the ninth minute.

Montrose midfielder Shaun Byrne robbed Dylan Forrest 25 yards from goal and found Kieran Freeman scampering down the wing, whose cross was headed into his own net by Archie Graham.

In the second period Craig Hepburn did well making himself big at his near post to deny Blair Lyons a third for the home side, with Freeman then blasting wide from the resultant corner.

Lyons was then denied by Josh Kerr on the line as he got on the end of a cut back following a good run by Ryan Williamson.

Hepburn was called into action once again to keep out a decent effort from Ewan Loudon, as well as Byrne on the rebound.

Peterhead went straight back up the other end as the wind saw the hosts struggle to clear their lines, but McCarthy’s eventually effort failed to trouble keeper Cammy Gill.

With five minutes left Lyons finally got his goal to wrap things up as he headed in from a Graham Webster free kick.

The guests almost grabbed a consolation at the death, but Gill was equal to a stinging drive from Seb Ross and it ended 3-0.

Strachan told BlueToonTV: “It was a horrendous game of football on a horrendous day and a terrible result, just a difficult, difficult spectacle.

"I don't think we've turned up at all, every bit as good as we were last week we were the total opposite on Saturday.
