Winners are crowned at finals day in Montrose
Young players dominated in the Montrose Tennis Club championships with part-time club coach Gregor McIver winning the men's singles and Montrose Academy pupil Sarah Simpson winning the ladies’ singles.
In the championship finals, McIver beat Montrose pupil Eddie Baxter while Simpson beat veteran player Amy Tewson.
In the men's doubles final, Scott Henderson and Chris Day defeated McIver and super-veteran Chris Hardy.
In the ladies doubles final, super-vet Maggie Hodges and her partner, recently graduated Glasgow University player Orla McLeod, defeated Daphne Forbes and Allie Henderson
In the mixed doubles final, Orla and Stuart Matthews defeated Wendy Sanger and Robin Kerr, while in the CV Baxter handicap tournament singles Simpson defeated Baxter.
In the U16s boys singles Callum Cooper beat Duncan Lyall, with Elsie Elgin defeating Freya Anderson in the U16s girls singles, while Cooper also won the junior CV Baxter handicap event over Hunter Ballantyne.
In the doubles the U16s boys winners were Campbell Petrie and Charlie Young, with Lyall and Struan Petrie as the runners-up.
The event that probably caused the most interest was an inaugural one-point championship, in which each “match” was decided by the first point.
More than 30 players entered and after just 45 minutes Robin Kerr emerged the winner in the final over Baxter, having had to win just five points to take the title.
