Brechin City boss wants side to build on the positives

Andy Kirk wants to see his Brechin City side build on the positives of Monday night’s second-half Scottish Cup performance against Darvel when the two meet again this weekend.

City were facing a cup defeat in the face against an impressive Darvel side who took a first half lead through Jordan Kirkpatrick.

But Kirk’s men were much improved after the interval and David Cox’s equaliser ensured the two will do it all over again this weekend.

The game was broadcast live on BBC Scotland and viewers were treated to a proper, old fashioned cup tie.

Kirk, though, believes there were areas where City could improve, but was pleased with the second 45 reaction from his men.

“We were disappointed with the first half performance,” he said.

"Normally the players will take the ball and create a bit more but we were a little bit off it.

"We changed the shape slightly in the second half and showed a bit more energy which gave us a chance in the game.

"Darvel had opportunities as well so it was probably the right result on the night.

"We were pleased with our second half performance but the first we didn’t play anywhere near the levels we have been.

"The second was encouraging for the replay and we look forward to it.

"It’s fresh in the players’ heads and in the coaches’ heads so we’ll prepare and get the players in the right condition for Saturday.”

The reward for Saturday’s replay winner is a fourth round tie away from home at Arbroath.
