Success for Brechin/Angus Book Festival event

Attendees were treated to an exciting programme that was enjoyed by everyone who went along. In addition to many fun activities, the book festival also had some of the county’s top authors present who mingled with everyone as well as giving talks and workshops on their experiences as authors.

Speaking to ACP after the event, organiser, Sarah Archibald said the event had been a great success and everyone who came along seemed to enjoy the festival’s line-up.

“Friday’s storytelling session and activities featured kids authors, John Macintyre, Pauline Tait and Annie Day Fernie, with a big comfy chair and twinkling lights - it was magical! This was followed by the family quiz night with the kids pitting their wits against the adults."

Sarah said: “We also held our prize-giving for the programme picture entries The winner was Isaac Fox from Maisondieu Primary, and the short story competition winner was Lottie Officer from Maisondieu Primary”

Sarah went on to tell us about the fun-packed weekend.

“It was an early start on Saturday featuring talks and workshops by local and visiting authors as well as over 20 authors who were available for book sales and signings.”

She added: Saturday also featured storyteller Jason Buck with his unique show featuring old and modern tales and Sunday morning saw more author talks and workshops. We also had an afternoon tea with the authors which was a lovely informal chat over a glass of bubbly!”

Hopeful of drumming up more support for next year, Sarah added:

“We have lots planned for next year including competitions for adults, establishing book clubs and encouraging more schools to take part in the competitions. We also hope to attract more local authors”

“We do need more physical support from public. All the daytime events were free yet some were poorly attended which was so disheartening. Hopefully, they will come out in their droves next year. Onwards and upwards!”
