The incident happened at around 3am when wheelie bins behind Brookfield Residential Home on Maule Street were set on fire. The blaze spread to nearby trees, with the outside of the building suffering smoke damage. A crew from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire.

Sergeant Stewart Ramsay said: “Luckily no-one was injured, however the consequences of setting this fire could have been much more serious. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or anyone who has information, to call 101 with reference 0306 of January 9, 2023.”
