St Ninan’s Square was thronged with people enjoying the more than 30 stalls organised by Brechin’s Muckle Market, some of which were under cover at Gardner Memorial Church where hot drinks and food were also served.
Another highlight was the presence of the Caledonian Railway’s ‘Polar Express’ at Brechin Railway Station, as well as a programme of entertainment.
Santa was also in his grotto to welcome children to the event and hear their wishes for Christmas.
At 4.30pm the Christmas tree lights were switched on by four-year-old Logan Welsh and sister Lois, 9, who were helped by Louise Duncan, chairperson of BRAVO, which organised Sunday’s activities.
A spokersperson for the group posted on Facebook: “ What an amazing turnout at our light switch-on this year! We want to thank each and every person who came down to see us we hope you all had a fantastic day!
"A huge thank you to the Brechin Muckle Market and all our amazing stall holders!”
The festivities continue this week as Santa and his sleigh, in conjunction with Brechin Rotary Club, will continue his tour around the city’s streets to collect for charity.
