Hospitalfield ready to host winter events

Hospitalfield is hosting an exciting range of seasonal activities in the lead-up to Christmas for friends and family to get involved with, indoors and out.

Join staff in the gardens, grounds and café which are open throughout the Autumn & Winter season, from Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with free entry to the gardens.

Head chef Elaine Chalmers has prepared specially themed menus to bring some festive winter warmers to the Café to see everyone through the colder months.

On Sunday, November 26, between 11am and 1pm, there will be a Mushrooms, Fungi and Mycelium Walk in the grounds. Get involved in this Autumn ramble, with a focus on fungi. Join Jim Cook, co-ordinator of the Tayside and Fife Fungal Group and local botanist, to explore the local mushrooms, fungi, and the worldwide mycelial network. The Garden Café has created eat-in and take-out menus inspired by the kingdom of fungi including warming soups, crostini and pasties to take on your walk.

Tulip bulb planting days will be held on November 26 and December 10, 11am - 3pm, in the walled garden. A selection of bulbs will be planted in time to bloom next spring.

Drop in to learn about tulip bulbs, have a go at planting them and warm up with a free take away hot chocolate. No experience needed and all will be welcome.

‘Short Sharp Stories: Blythe Stockdale on Arbroath’s Ballad Poetry’ will be at The New Scriptorium in Arbroath Abbey on Friday, December 9 at 2pm and 3pm.

This will be a poetry workshop led by writer Blythe Stockdale which will explore the tradition of ballad poetry in Arbroath as both a printed and oral form of poetic composition.

On Sunday, December 10, ‘CLAY: Angus Makers' Fair’, will take place from 11am - 4pm.

The day will give you the chance to see and purchase the work of 12 ceramicists and potters, all based in Angus. Each maker will be offering a range of their work for sale and will be sharing the making techniques they use to show how they create with clay.
