Price cut for Angus music festival tickets after VAT change

Family tickets for the county’s newest music festival – Summer's End Angus – have been cut in price due to the UK Government's reduction in VAT on summer family events.

Organisers have announced that they are passing the full benefit by cutting cutting family ticket prices – including for camping – by 15%.

The Government's decision to reduce VAT from 20% to 5% on eligible tickets for summer family events and child meals has been described by industry observers as a major boost for the sector, and Summer's End Angus has confirmed it will not retain any of the saving for itself.

Every youth ticket and every adult ticket purchased as part of a family order will benefit from the reduction. Children under five will continue to attend free of charge.

And customers who have already purchased eligible family tickets will also be contacted in the coming weeks with details of how the difference can be reimbursed. Festival bosses say they are awaiting for some clarity from HMRC on the detail of what will be permissible for reimbursement options.

Under the new pricing, which is already reflected on the festival website, a typical family of two adults and two children aged between five and 15 buying weekend tickets for all three days of the festival plus three nights camping is now £392.70 for a family of four – a saving of £69.30.

Even a single Saturday day-ticket family bundle now costs £156.40 for two adults and two children – down from £184.

Children under five continue to attend free across every ticket tier.

Katrina Hutchinson-O'Neill, festival director, said: "The biggest family party weekend in the north-east this summer just got even better. We built Summer's End to be the best-value festival hitting Scotland this summer – and in the current climate we absolutely know that value for money matters just as much to everyone as the knock-your-socks-off line-up and opportunities at the festival to make magical family memories and experiences.”

She added: "Honestly, our line-up is insanely good – to the point that there are still people asking us every week whether these are the real bands!

"We've had folks who bought tickets genuinely thinking they were cover bands. They're not - they are all 100% the real deal. The Jacksons are flying in. Emeli Sandé, Sugababes, UB40, Paris Paloma, Pixie Lott, Right Said Fred, Cammy Barnes, The Shambolics, Susan Boyle, Skerryvore, Sandi Thom, Judge Jules Live Band – all real, all confirmed, all landing in Angus in August along with over 50 other amazing acts.”

The festival, which will take place at Brechin Castle showfield, has confirmed Rudimental will close Saturday night with their full Europeanstyle live production set, with the full weekend bill featuring a family stage, a rock and indie stage, a talks stage and a double main stage.

Demand for accommodation has been so strong that significant operational changes have had to be made, including rezoning the entire camping site. Tickets and full line-up information are available at summers-end.com.
