September in the Rain is a semi-autobiographical play in which Godber retells stories of his grandparents’ annual holidays in Blackpool.

Jack – a typical old-school Yorkshire miner – and his wife Liz honeymooned in Blackpool and returned there almost every year for 40 years.

Their annual vacation moved from high summer to September to accommodate Jack’s holidays from the pit.

The opening of the play finds them sitting on a bench on the seafront, waiting for their coach to leave at the end of another week in Blackpool.

From there, the two of them take the audience on a gentle and touching journey through the story of two lives spent together, as they share their holiday reminiscences.

Jack and Liz are both strong characters who know what they think and want.

They rarely view the world through the same lens, but through the years, and the rain, the tears and many disagreements, laughter, dancing and sunshine emerge.

Although they frequently argue, there is an unbreakable and tender bond between them.

September in the Rain is a human story, packed with nostalgia, humour and warmth.

Tickets for September in the Rain can be bought online at www.forfardramatic.com and are also available at the door on the night.

You can catch September in the Rain in Studio 132 East High Street, Forfar, DD8 2ER from September 8-11, nightly at 7.30 pm.
