Narrow margin win for Strathmore

Things could barely have been tighter for Strathmore at the weekend as they narrowly squeezed past Greenock Wanderers.

The two met at Fort Matilda on Saturday afternoon with the local size eventually coming through 12-11 in the Tennent’s Men’s National League Division Three.

The match ebbed and flowed with neither side really stamping their authority on proceedings.

Strath managed to get their noses in front at the start of the second half but the points were very much in the balance.

Both sides were wasteful until the very dying seconds when Wanderers were awarded a penalty-kick.

They wasted their chance to snatch the victory and the points returned to Angus.

The win sees Strathmore sit seventh in the division on 18 points.

This weekend they host Murrayfield Wanderers with kick-off scheduled for 2pm.

Elsewhere, in the Tennent’s Caledonia Midlands Region League Division Two, there was a defeat for Carnoustie.

They hosted Kinross with the visitors running out 23-17 winners.

This weekend Carnoustie travel to Dundee Uni Medics.

There was better fortune down a division for Montrose/Arbroath who beat Bannockburn 35-30.

In the same league, Strathmore’s seconds were beaten 52-21 by Waid Academy.

On Saturday Strath’s seconds make their way into the central belt to face Bannockburn while Montrose/Arbroath head to Fife for an encounter against Rosyth Sharks.
