Mixed fortunes for our rugby sides

Strathmore Rugby Club’s first team showed a ruthless spirit at the weekend as they deservedly beat Ardrossan Academicals 21-5.

It was an impressive showing from the local side who racked up some valuable points to keep Ardrossan below them in the table, providing a foundation for them to start to look up.

They’ll aim to keep up that momentum this weekend when they play host to Hillhead Jordan at 2pm.

Like other sports across the area at the weekend, several arranged fixtures had to be postponed due to the severe weather.

Some grounds suffered damage while pitches were unplayable in other parts.

Panmure, though, did manage to take to the field.

They travelled to Dundee Uni Medics and were involved in a high scoring encounter.

It was the hosts who won the encounter, edging Panmure out 45-39.

This weekend Panmure are at home to Harris Academy.

Montrose were also able to take to the field in the Tennent’s Caledonia Midlands Region League Division Three.

They welcomed Grangemouth Stags’ second team but were on the wrong end of a 31-19 loss.

They’ll aim to remedy that on Saturday when they are at home to Dunfermline’s seconds.

In the same division there was a heavy 95-5 defeat for Strathmore’s seconds at the hands of Dundee Rugby’s seconds.

On Saturday the side will welcome Grangemouth Stags’ seconds.
