Angus racers involved in Fife thriller

Brechin's Johnny Wood was one of three Angus drivers involved at the meet

The saloon action on Saturday night saw a couple of rollovers and, in one incident, Kyle Irvine rolled his car spectacularly, exiting the turnstile bend and scattering marker tyres in the process.

The saloon drivers were running in qualifying heats for their British Championship with the drivers racing three times out of five heats.

Involved in the racing were the Brechin trio of Barry Russell, Logan Bruce and Johnny Wood.

Russell came out on top in heat two, taking the lead during the closing stages before going on to win with Wood, who had led for sometime in third spot.

In heat three, once all the incidents were over, Wood went through for a comfortable victory.

Heat five ended with Wood claiming his second win of the night and, in doing so, claimed pole position for Sunday’s championship race. Russell was on row five with Bruce on row 13.

On Sunday Wood got the British Championship underway but next time around was spun out.

Russell was making up ground and after a hard drive through the field and ended up in second place, a result he repeated in the Ray Gunn Tribute race as well as the Allcomers where Bruce ended up in seventh place.

This Saturday its back to normal with the formula II drivers racing for their Willie Hunter memorial trophy and will be backed by the saloons, ORCi ministox and prostock. The meeting starts at 6pm.
