Forfar West End don't let title chasers have it their own way

West End made their way into central Dundee to face an East Craigie side, desperately chasing the league title.

On a bright afternoon, the weather was perfect for football although Craigie Park proved a difficult surface to play on. But the Dundee side seemed to have little trouble and quickly put West End on the back foot. Despite waves of attacks, the West End stood firm and as time passed they looked to be absorbing the pressure without many scares. But sadly later in the half, the deadlock was broken and East Craigie went ahead and seemed thereafter to settle . It was all about getting to halftime and despite hitting the woodwork, East Craigie just couldn’t kill the game off.

A halftime brew, and back out, however a similar pattern continued. Craigie were keen to play their passing brand of football and it was clear to see why they have been winning and scoring consistently. But West End are no pushovers and refused to play their part in another routine Craigie win. But an upset was not to be. Craigie found success down the right side, and as the ball was swept in, it fell to the prolific Grady. Despite his back to the goal, he was thinking quickest and instinctively back-heeled into the net. A fear that the floodgates could open at this point, but instead West End crept forward. Smith on the right was often getting to the bye-line and it looked like East Craigie just wanted to get down the tunnel. But a late twist arrived with Abi Njie rifling a shot home, into the roof of the net from 15 yards giving West End hope. Despite there being only minutes left, it was West End who were now forcing the game. But sadly, time waits for no man, and the game ended in a narrow defeat. But in conclusion this again showed that the Angus team can mix with the powerhouses at the top. East Craigie now go forward into the last few games chasing the ultimate honour.

Best on the day for West End were Dylan Stephen in midfield and defenders Soave, Mathews and Penman.
