Battling Brechin City keep the momentum going

But, with only three games to play and a four point deficit to make up, Andy Kirk’s men know they must maintain their form to stand any chance of lifting the title and playing in the promotion play-off for a potential place back in League Two.

The club’s most recent win came at the weekend when Brechin were 2-1 winners over Brora Rangers.

David Cox opened the scoring before Michael Cruickshank put them 2-0 up a couple of minutes after the re-start.

Dale Gillespie’s penalty reduced the deficit in the final seconds.

Brechin youngster Ewan Loudon has agreed a two year extension to his contract which will keep him at Glebe Park until the summer of 2024.

The 18-year old, who joined City earlier in the season after coming through the ranks at St Johnstone, initially had to be patient for game-time.

Having impressed with his workrate, energy and technical ability, Loudon has been a regular in the side of the late and has shown his versatility by performing both upfront and further back in midfield.

The club’s Garry Wood made his 500th professional appearance and scored his 150th goal during Wednesday night’s game against Inverurie Locos.

His goal proved to be the matchwinner.

Wood scored Montrose's winning goal against Brora a number of seasons ago which meant Mo avoided the drop to the Highland League.
