Trio depart Station Park as Forfar plan for 2022

Forfar responded following back-to-back league defeats with a 3-2 victory over Stranraer at Station Park over the weekend.

Boss Gary Irvine said he was “delighted” to get over the finish line and seal a win which sees his side remain second in League Two.

It also set things up perfectly for Saturday’s game of the day in the division with Forfar travelling to third placed Annan.

Irvine added: “Annan will be another tough game. But we’ve picked up two wins against them this season so far. They are the in-form team in the league though. So it will be difficult. They are a well-organised team. But today will boost our confidence. We’re back on track, one we need to keep building on.”

Off the park, Forfar have confirmed that three of the current squad have moved on.

First t leave was the club’s longest-serving player and former skipper Michael Travis who was released from his contract on Friday.

Travis has since signed with Gary Naysmith’s Edinburgh City.

“Michael missed the whole of last season through injury and since making a full recovery had found it difficult to cement a regular place in Gary’s starting line-up.” the club said at forfarathletic.co.uk

“Despite a couple of horrendous injuries in his time at the club, which he showed great resilience and no little application to recover from, Michael still made 158 starting appearances in competitive fixtures for the club as well as 12 from the bench, netting 20 goals into the bargain.

"He never gave less than one hundred per cent both on the field of play and in training and became a true favourite of the Athies fan base.

“He leaves Station Park with the thanks and gratitude of all concerned and with best wishes for his future both on and off the park.”

Striker Steven Doris is another leaving the club, after the forward decided to call time on his football career.

Also leaving Station Park is midfield player Mark Gallagher whose temporary transfer from Aberdeen has been terminated.
