Midweek football: Forfar held at Stirling Albion

Forfar’s trip to Forthbank survived an afternoon pitch inspection with the surface having to absorb some heavy rainfall the evening previous.

That in itself set the tone for how the match would play out, the surface becoming boggy and difficult to play flowing football on.

Forfar had their match at the weekend against Cowdenbeath postponed due to positive Covid-19 cases and close contacts within the Station Park ranks.

A new date for that game will be scheduled but Forfar were able to field a team for Tuesday night’s match against Stirling.

It proved to be a tough night’s work with the hosts coming from behind to earn a draw.

Forfar had taken the lead on 13 minutes when Craig Slater’s free-kick found the top corner.

It was a goal which lit up the match and Forfar had other chances, Matty Aitken unlucky to see his effort come back off the post.

But Stirling are decent on their own patch and grew into the game the longer it went on.

They grabbed an equaliser on 65 minutes through Dale Carrick.

Forfar remain in second place in League Two as they continue to close out a place inside the top four.

Gary Harkins was standing in for ill boss Gary Harkins and he told the club’s social media channel post match: “After being 1-0 up we have to be disappointed at the result.

"We dropped off the game in the first-half and that was how we ended up conceding their goal.

"That’s something we obviously need to work on. What it is not, however, is an attitude problem.

"I can’t fault a single player in our dressing room on that score.

"They are a great bunch of boys, a great dressing room and a great team. But what we saw tonight is something that will improve with experience. They’ll learn how to win games like this."

Next up for Forfar is a top-of-the-table clash with long-time division leaders Kelty Hearts at Station Park.

“They’re obviously a good side and top of the league for a reason,” added Harkins.

"But I’ve got faith in our boys.
