Forfar praise fan effort which leads to Kelty victory

The Station Park side took their weekend game to league leaders Kelty Hearts, coming out on top in a 1-0 win.

Kelty aren’t a side used to getting beaten but the Angus men more than merited a win, which closed the gap on the top-table club and generated a healthy points advantage for themselves inside the top four.

But it was a win which almost didn’t happen, Station Park covered in snow ahead of kick-off.

Supporters, determined to help their club get the game played, joined directors and other volunteers in getting the surface cleared.

Forfar hailed those who gave up their own time, saying: “A huge thank you to everyone who helped to clear the Station Park pitch and terracing to allow the match against Kelty Hearts to go ahead.

"Of course, three points for the Loons made all the effort worthwhile.”

Manager Gary Irvine missed the game through illness, meaning the team was again taken by Gary Harkins.

Harkins was delighted with what the players gave him against the Fifers, saying: “We’re a really good side. All I really did was ask them to go out there and prove it, and they did. We’ve played Kelty three times this season now and all three have been tight games.”

Forfar will aim to keep that momentum going this week when they travel to meet a Stenhousemuir side trying to break into the top four.
