Gary Irvine has called on his side to maintain their positive momentum when they travel to face Edinburgh City on Friday night.

Gary Naysmith’s City, who are sharing Ainslie Park with Spartans this season, are one of those sides tucked in behind Forfar and aiming to claw back ground on them in the promotion play-off race.

But Irvine's side are in fine form at the moment and reinforced their second place in League Two at the weekend thanks to a 2-0 win at home to Stirling Albion.

Looking ahead to Friday night, the manager told Forfar’s social media channels: “We’ll prepare as we always do and hopefully build on what we achieved (against Stirling).

“My message to the players is always the same.

"It’s all about working hard and creating a winning mentality.

"We did that and will look to do so again in Edinburgh.”

Forfar had to be patient against the managerless Binos on Saturday.

After a tight first-half, the started the second 45 well and Craig Slater eventually put them ahead on 48 minutes.

They wrapped up the points in the closing seconds through Stefan McCluskey.

“I wanted them to come out fast and control the game, which is what they did” added Irvine.

"There wasn’t much in it first-half. Both teams pretty much cancelled each other out. If anything, we just edged it in terms of possession and chances. Second-half, I was pleased with the goals. It was nice to see Craig Slater get one. He put in a great shift for the team, as he has been doing lately.”
