Contracts extended and first new arrival at City

Brechin City has made their first new signing of the summer with the arrival of attacking midfielder Kyle Bell.

Next season will see City switch from the Highland League to the newly formed Lowland League East.

Their first signing of the summer comes from one of their new rivals as Bell joins from Broxburn Athletic on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old previously turned out for Raith Rovers, East Fife, Dundonald Bluebell and Glenrothes before spending two seasons in West Lothian.

In his first Bell was named Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, before once again being voted Supporters’ Player of the Year last season.

City boss Andy Kirk told the club’s website: "I’m delighted to be able to bring Kyle Bell to the club.

"Kyle was highlighted to us by our scout before the end of last season and after speaking with a number of people in the game and watching footage, it was clear that Kyle was the right type of player and person I want at the club.

“He is a creative, attack-minded player who will add even more quality to the group.”

Meanwhile, defender Brad McKay and midfielder Fraser Macleod have both signed two-year contract extensions.

McKay arrived at Glebe Park from Falkirk in 2024 with his form in that debut campaign sweeping the club’s end of season awards.

While injury limited the 33-year-old to 20 appearances last season, he has now made 60 appearances for City, while scoring 12 goals.

Kirk said: “Brad has good experience and quality and adds more strength and depth to the back line.

“Brad, like others, expressed a real desire to stay with Brechin City and try and help the club be successful.”

Macleod joined City from East Craigie in 2022 and would help the club with the Highland League in his first season.

In the last four seasons the 24-year-old has been a near ever present, scoring a fine total of 28 goals in 170 appearances.

Kirk said: “Fraser was a very important part of the league winning side in in 2022/23 and he wants more success with Brechin.

“Fraser is a versatile player who can add a lot of quality and creativity to different positions and always works hard for the team.”
