Angus cricket clubs ready for season's start

The draw for Scotland’s premier domestic cricket tournament was drawn recently and has thrown up some interesting first round ties – including those involving Angus clubs.

Tie of the round looks like the north east derby, where Forfarshire will have to take a short trip up the A92 to face neighbours Arbroath United.

Drumpelier will have to head further north to take on Aberdeenshire at Mannofield.

Gala will make the trip from the borders to face 2016 winners Clydesdale, whilst the 2018 champions Gen!us Grange host Meigle

Defending champions Heriots will travel to Poloc, with the added incentive of knowing that a place in the cup final would essentially be a home tie, with the final being scheduled for Goldenacre for the first time in the tournaments history.

Last year’s losing finalists Watsonian travel to Calero Kelbourne and they will be joined by further teams crossing the M8 with Prestwick hosting Royal High Corstorphine and Carlton hosting Greenock.

The 50 over tournament runs throughout the and this year’s tournament starts on Sunday, May 15.

The draw has also been made for the Challenge Cup.

That cup is 40 over competition played throughout the season and this years final is scheduled for early August at Strathmore.

Strathmore themselves were part of the draw and they will travel to Kilmarnock in round one on May 1.
