Report on fostering services to be discussed

Angus councillors are to discuss services for fostered children, carers and adoptive parents at a meeting later today.

As well as ongoing challenges, the council’s children and learning committee will discuss an annual report from the Angus adoption agency and fostering panel.

This details how national and local policies on fostering and care services translate into action across the region.

Among key items will be the objectives and effectiveness of the Adult Resource Panel which assesses providers of supported lodgings and conditions for long-term carers.

This panel recently reviewed requirements for carers of unaccompanied young people seeking asylum and will continue to focus on this sector.

The committee report highlights that 12 fostering families were recruited this year along with a higher number of carers recruited for short breaks.

However, there remains great demand for people willing to offer long-term care. Among key objectives is the need to keep brothers and sisters together.
