New measures suggested to improve bus station safety
A survey has been launched by Angus Council to find out how facilities at Arbroath Bus Station can be made safer for users.
And a number of suggestions have already been put forward to help vandal-proof the station, which is currently undergoing improvement work.

It follows the closure last year of the building’s waiting room by the council after instances of antisocial behaviour.
And the town councillors have urged the public to make their views known, while at the same time calling for increased police patrols of vicinity around the station.
Councillor Brenda Durno said she believes more use of technology could help.
She said: “At a recent Tactran meeting I highlighted the fact we need QR codes on tickets, whether on paper tickets or on phones. This could enable passengers to use the facilities like toilets or refreshments.
“The bus companies would have the customer’s details. This would make monitoring the vandalism within the bus station easier for police or security. Outside cameras linked to a central office could also monitor activities by individuals not using public transport.”
Depute council leader Derek Wann welcomed the improvement programme.
He said: “These upgrades will help enhance the facility for passengers and contribute to a more welcoming town centre environment. I have also contacted Police Scotland on several occasions to request a more visible presence.”
And Councillor Lois Speed added: “There have been a number of incidents in and around the bus station that have affected drivers, passengers, and nearby businesses. People deserve to feel safe while travelling, working, and running their businesses.”
A council spokesperson said: “In addition to the waiting room repairs, the council has completed work on upgrading the CCTV system, the lighting on the concourse and the real time information screen. The council will continue to work with business tenants at the bus station and Police Scotland as required.”
The survey can be found on the Engage Angus section of the council website until August 12.
