Message of support to Ukrainians living in Angus
The day officially marks Ukraine’s Declaration of Independence in 1991.
Angus Provost, Brian Boyd said: “It’s six months to the day since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, in what was a massive escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War. In the time since, it is estimated that a third of the country’s population has been displaced to other countries; many thousands of lives have been lost and impact of this appalling conflict has sent shockwaves around the world.

“They are most welcome. Our thoughts are with them each and every day, but especially today on their Independence Day.”
Angus Council Leader, Beth Whiteside said: “Such days normally give rise to celebration, but perhaps not so, when your country is at war and your future remains unclear. But such days also provide good reason to display pride in your nation, certainty in who you and your people are and a determination to fight for better days ahead.
“I want our Ukrainian guests to know that they are very welcome with us here in Angus. They have our support now, on what will undoubtedly be a difficult day for them, and throughout these difficult times as their compatriots fight for freedom.”
