The works at the Balmossie Viadcut were agreed at a recent meeting of Dundee City Council's City Development committee and will comprise the reinstatement of footpaths, fence foundations and repainting of handrails.

Mr Cordell said: "I’m really pleased to see these works brought forward by the SNP administration. The Seven Arches is one of the Ferry's most popular green spaces; a go-to destination for walkers, cyclists and dog walkers and a valuable wild-life haven which is home to heron and occasional deer, amongst other species."

The Victorian viaduct is in the shared ownership of Angus and Dundee City Councils and is an A Grade structure. The former rail bridge crosses over the Dighty Water comprises seven brick arches, each 50 feet in span. The two over the river rise to over 70 feet.

Mr Cordell concluded: "Green spaces are so important for both our physical and mental well-being, as well as the aesthetics of the area, and these works, which should be completed by early springtime, will ensure the area continues to meet the needs of its users."
