A group of Ukrainian mothers who brought their children to safety in Scotland visited Auchmithie recently to mark their country’s Mother’s Day.

An art exhibition to celebrate the event, which was on Sunday, was organised by Auchmithie-based artist Mary-Ann Orr, with contributions from the children and their mums, some of whom have left their own mothers behind in the war-torn country.

The event followed a recent trip by Mary-Ann to Ukraine, where she visited schools to deliver art classes and workshops to the pupils.

She will be returning to Ukraine on June 3 to again teach art and distribute 150 bags containing art materials.

The children visited her studio where they enjoyed a picnic and painted pictures for the exhibition. There was also poetry reading and a singalong.
