Susan Campbell, who owns and manages The Stag alongside husband, Graeme, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won the Beer Quality Award for Scotland. It has been a lot of work to raise our standards to a high and consistent level recognised by Tennent’s.”

She added: “We are so proud and we aim to maintain the standard and hopefully retain this status again next year.”

The award is a sweet victory for the venue having entered previously without success.

The Stag also thanked all their customers who made it all worthwhile and without them it would not have been possible.

Customers have also congratulated The Stag on the venue’s Facebook page too.

Originally a hotel, The Stag maintains some of the original features and has been extended to accommodate the cafe upstairs which offers afternoon teas with freshly made sandwiches and scones. Downstairs, the restaurant caters for lunch and evening meals and also serves a traditional Sunday Roast.
