Equipped with a shiny new sleigh and, complete with music and new lights, he was out for the first route of the annual collection, which will continue over the next two weeks.

Every night Santa, along with his helpers, will be out on his sleigh at 6pm and follow a set route around different streets in the town.

It is hoped that by around 8pm and before bed time for younger children, the route will be completed. Details of routes can be found on the Rotary’s Facebook page.

As in previous years, letters to Santa are welcome and this year they are being collected via a series of special post boxes placed in the town’s primary schools, but the letter can also be downloaded from the Forfar Rotary Website at www.forfarrotary.org.uk.

The Rotary Club is also placing collection buckets and cans in a number of shops and retail outlets throughout Forfar for anyone wishing to make contributions to the local and Rotary charitable causes that the Forfar club supports with its Christmas collection.

Santa will also be putting in a personal appearance at this Saturday’s Christmas Market in Castle Street, between 12pm and 4pm.
