Mr Sutherland taught at the former Dundee Institute of Art and Technology and was head of sculpture at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art over a 30-year teaching career.

He is probably best known for the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge and for the Black Watch memorial on Powrie Brae, near Dundee. The plaque, at the main entrance of Abertay University, was unveiled by principle Professor Liz Bacon in a ceremony attended by Bill Campbell, Dundee’s Lord Provost. Local piper Fraser Robson also played at the ceremony.

Four former servicemen, Ed Wilson, Steve Nicoll, Dave Mathews and Barry Barnwell started the Scott Sutherland heritage trail, and are currently raising funds to install plaques around the areas where Scott Sutherland sculpted his greatest work.

Anyone wishing to donate can google the Scott Sutherland Project for details. The website is: www.commando-heritage-trail.com.
