Pupils bag support in a UK first for Arbroath Rotary Club

Arbroath Rotary has notched up a UK first with a new scheme for local primary pupils who are making the transition to secondary school after the summer holidays.

As part of the Arbroath Rotary Club ‘Well-Being Project’, Rotarians visited Timmergreens Primary School recently to deliver the project’s first 30 School bag-packs, which were filled with a selection of goodies for the pupils.

In a first for Rotary across the UK, the Arbroath club had decided to deliver 300 ruck-sacks in total, and to widen out their donations, as these will be given to to primary 7 pupils in various schools all over Angus.

The project was established as Rotary members understand that P7 pupils can be apprehensive and anxious about relocating to a new and bigger school.

The hope is that this kind gesture will help the youngsters in their transition to senior school.

Each gift of a rucksack contains a few goodies, such as, a water Bottle, notepad, two pencils, two pens, a fidget bracelet, a stress wheel, a highlighter pen and much more.

A few members of Arbroath Rotary Club attended the recent presentation, including their President Liz McEwan, who is pictured shaking hands with Timmergreens head teacher Jackie Smith.

The pupils were grateful for the rack-sacks which no doubt they will wear with pride on their first day at secondary school.

The club now intends to deliver ruck-sacks to primary 7 pupils every year.
