Kirriemuir project building bridges with music

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has launched its new project ‘Generations’ in Kirriemuir, led by experienced community music practitioner Stephen Deazley.

Over the course of six weeks, the project will encourage Primary 7 children from Northmuir Primary School and elderly participants with moderate stage dementia from Kirrie Connections to connect and build cross-generational relationships through music-making.

RSNO Generations aims to create a welcoming environment for participants and RSNO players to sing, play instruments and share stories; improving well-being and offering a creative outlet that may otherwise be difficult to access.

The project will conclude with a showcase event for friends and family in Kirriemuir Town Hall on March 27.

The RSNO has a very active series of programmes aimed at all ages.

Its engagement strategy, Music for Life, sees the orchestra work with schools and community groups across the country, connecting its music with the people of Scotland.

Since March 2020, the RSNO has also extended its reach by creating multiple online engagement programmes and digital seasons, ensuring that the orchestra continues to bring world-class music to its audiences in Scotland and around the world on stage and on screen.
