There will be a launch event on Thursday, May 19 at 11am at the garden, and anyone with an interest is welcome.

As well as hearing from the Open Garden staff about what activities can be enjoyed, there will also be a chance to find out more about the Move More programme and experience a Gentle Movement taster session in the beautiful surroundings.

Taking part in physical activity both before, during and after cancer treatment can play a huge part in enabling patients to take back control. It can help prevent and manage some of the effects of treatment, such as fatigue, depression, and risks to heart health.

This collaboration with Forfar Open Garden is part of an Angus wide programme called Move More ANGUSalive. Working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, Move More offers a range of physical activity opportunities.

Linda Brown, Development Officer for Move More ANGUSalive said: “We’re really pleased and excited that staff at Forfar Open Garden have undertaken Macmillan training so that they can support people living with cancer to enjoy gardening activities.”

Joanne Adamson, Macmillan Partnership Manager said: “We are delighted to be able to expand the Move More programme with the introduction of gardening activities. Becoming more active after a cancer diagnosis can be daunting, however simply taking time to be outdoors is a great first step.

"The beautiful garden provides an ideal place to do that. We want to help people affected by cancer to live life as fully as they can and working with ANGUSalive to provide this programme of activities will hopefully ensure many people across the area do.”

Forfar Open Garden was established in 2015 for volunteers and visitors to enjoy spending time in a beautiful and peaceful place. It has flourished with health, well being and activities to bring the community together.
