Forfar folk thanked for aid appeal support

Members of Forfar Community Council recently organised a coffee morning which was well supported by in terms of donations from local businesses and attendance by local resident, raising £500 on the day.

But a later single donation boosted that to more than £800.

Linda Clark, chairwoman said: Our group hosted a coffee morning in the Legion Scotland in Forfar.

“A lovely spread was prepared by the Legion volunteers under the guidance of Margaret Brown.

“Lots of other refreshments were donated by individuals and local shops large and small. W e had a large attendance of folk who enjoyed the blether and the lovely fare, also a super raffle was held and many prizes won by attendees.

“We made £500 on the day with another £10 given later. However we were delighted to accept a further £300 from Kate Nelson, another Legion lady who is an amazing knitter and who celebrated a big birthday recently. She decided not to have presents at her party but invited guests to donate to the crisis fund.”

The money raised is being donated to the the Red Cross which will channel it to the DEC (Disaster emergency Committee) for its relief project. Including Gift Aid, the total was £1012.

Linda added: “I would like to thank Legion Scotland, in particular all the volunteers at the coffee morning, who were a delight to work with, Mgt. Brown for her unstinting support, Kate for her extreme generosity, Forfar Community Council colleagues, local businesses and all who attended.

“This sort of humanitarianism and community spirit is being replicated globally and we are all wishing the Ukraine people well, assuring them that we are not forgetting them.”

The fundraiser follows a recent highly successful appeal by Forfar Rotary Club which collected clothes, food items and toiletries which were sent to help the relief effort on the Polish border. In just two days more than enough was collected to fill the lorry heading to Europe. The excess will be turned into cash to donate to the continuing appeal.
