Forfar Academy pupils successfully complete new fire skills course


The Fire Skills pilot course was held at the end of September, run at Forfar Fire Station for eight pupils from fourth and fifth year. It aims to help young people to develop personal skills including teamwork and communication, of use in the wor kplace and life generally
Delivered primarily by the Angus Community Action Team of Gary Wood, Steven Daly and Community Safety Advocate Kenny Petrie, assisted by Gordon Samson and Judi Young, the aim is to ensure that SFRS Angus becomes a positive employer.

Hide AdAs well as working closely with the school, Gary Wood is working alongside Anne-Marie Smith from Angus Council’s Developing Young People;s Workforce team.
The scheme is also linked to an employability award. With one-week initial fires skills practical course, the pupils then apply and take part in an interview process, for the three places that are then available for work experience within SFRS Angus CAT team.
Pupils Rory, Dan, Sonny, Riley, Ryan, Naomi, Nathan and Eddie completed the week, all with a pass.
