Fact-finding visit to Victim Support Angus

Local MSP Graeme Dey recently visited Victim Support Angus to discuss actions and awareness against domestic violence.

Based in Arbroath, Victim Support Angus is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing help, guidance, and support to people victim of criminal offences.

Their competencies cover a broad range or areas, such as supporting people who faced rape and sexual assault, domestic violence or hate crime, amongst others.

Using a collaborative approach, the organisation works in conjunction with criminal justice agencies, local agencies and the third sector.

They also enable victims to share their stories, raising awareness on these issues in the local community.

Mr Dey spoke with support co-ordinator Audrey McDonald during his visit.

He said: “Today’s discussion was extremely eye-opening and insightful; it was very encouraging to hear of the work Victim Support Angus is doing to support the local community and provide help and guidance to those needing it the most.

“Their job is difficult, and yet they provide their help to both victims and witnesses that find themselves emotionally and physically distressed.”

“While it is affecting to hear about the sufferings some people went through, it is encouraging to see that non-profit organisation such as Victim Support Angus have the power to make a difference on the lives of the local community.”

Audrey added: "It was really nice to meet with Graeme Dey. Mr Dey was very interested to hear about the good work that we do supporting victims, witnesses and anyone affected by crime. Crime at any level can impact individuals in many ways and we tailor the support to the individual needs. Our support is free and confidential"
