Emergency services highlight need for vehicle access

Officers from the Forfar/Kirriemuir Community Policing Team have carried out joint patrols with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in Kirriemuir following concerns raised about parked vehicles causing problems for the fire service to access some areas when attending call-outs.

Members of both services visited areas where issues have been identified and carried out a leaflet drop asking residents to be considerate when parking and ensure enough space is left for emergency vehicle access.

Watch Commander Judi Young from Kirriemuir Fire Station said “Every second counts for us at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, due to the increasing amount of equipment we now carry on the fire appliances, the new generation appliances are now bigger.

"At a previous incident we had in our local area, the fire appliance was slightly delayed due to the parking issues, within one of the local streets, we ask you to take more care while parking and ensure access is left for emergency service vehicles”.
