Defender's mum and dad receive unexpected Christmas gift

The mum and dad of Montrose FC defender Andrew Steeves received an unexpected festive gift just before Christmas in the form of a £1,000 cheque,

The couple’s lucky number was drawn from the hat as Montrose FC’s December Club 500 winner.

An exciting and innovative lottery scheme, Club 500 allows Gable Endie fans to accumulate shares in their beloved club each month as well as having the chance of winning 24 big cash prizes each year.

Launched at the start of 2020, the normal monthly jackpot is £500, but in the season of goodwill, this doubles to a fantastic four-figure sum and Mr and Mrs Steeves have become only the second £1000 winners in the scheme.

The second prize is usually £100 but also increases to £175 in June, with a first prize of £750 that same month.

Delighted with his success, dad Bruce joked how the hardest thing would be keeping the money away from Andrew, with the full back chipping in that it would go nicely towards his house deposit.

Along with the increased first prize for December, the runners-up prize is also more than doubled for Christmas.

This rises to £250, which was won by local man John Barlow, taking the overall winnings paid out by the scheme to almost £16,000.

Each ticket costs £20 per month with no limit on the number of tickets per individual. Monthly draws are videoed and posted on the club's social media sites, with the next draw taking place at the end of January. Full details on joining the scheme can be found on the club’s website.
