Collections and other services to be suspended

A council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to reschedule Monday’s bin collections but we will accept a reasonable amount of bagged waste from affected households beside their purple bin on the next scheduled collection.

“If you can, please take any excess waste or recycling to a recycling centre, when open. We can’t accept bagged items beside the grey bin and recyclables put out beside your purple bin will not be recycled.

Food waste will keep for two weeks in your caddy – please keep recycling as normal and if your caddy is full you can place excess in your purple bin. Garden waste will likewise keep between collections.

“Where commercial waste collections are not carried out we will accept a proportionate amount of extra bags on the next general waste collection.”

As per guidance from the Scottish Government, schools will also be closed as a mark of respect. This advice also applies to other education settings that would normally be closed on a bank holiday. Most local authority-run early learning and childcare (ELC) services are expected to close.

Privately-operated ELCs are expected to make their own arrangements.

A Scottish Government spokesperson added: “Health boards have been given guidance to support their planning for the holiday which underlines the importance of essential healthcare services continuing. This includes pre-planned treatments, and the winter vaccination programme. Patients should visit their local NHS board website for further information.

“Most public transport services are currently expected to run as normal. Passengers should contact operators for information. Not everyone is entitled to paid leave on bank holidays. If in doubt, check the position with your employer.”
