Students at Dundee and Angus College never fail to amaze with their creative skills.

D&A Acting and Performance student Michael Martin is lead singer with local band Emerald Sunday who have just released a brand new Christmas single.

Formed in Kirriemuir in 2008, the band’s members come from all over Angus but two of them still live in the town. By 2015 they were writing most of their own material and released their debut album Revolution. Fast forward four years and they released their third album Willow which briefly overtook Lewis Capaldi in the official Amazon album chart reaching number four.

Emerald Sunday frontman Michael explains how it came about: “After seeing LadBaby hit the top spot with covers every Christmas for the past few years, Alan Hunter (writer/guitarist and founder member) decided to write a festive song and it’s turned out to be pretty outstanding.”

The band are also delighted with the creative team who helped produce the record and told ACP:

“It was recorded at Magnetic North Studio in Halifax and produced by Richard McNamara from Yorkshire band Embrace.

Richard recorded our last album Willow which was also a big success for us so there was only one person we wanted to produce the Christmas track. Working with Richard is still something dreams are made of.”

I Wish the World Would Sing was mastered by legendary mastering engineer Nick Watson at Fluid mastering in London who has worked with the big name acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Oasis, and U2.

Sarah Rennie, Student Association Team Leader at D&A College, said: “We are so proud of Michael and Emerald Sunday for releasing their new feel-good Christmas single into the charts and lifting people’s spirits during these difficult times.

"We love hearing about learners who are leading the way in their chosen field of study and providing that shining light for others to see what being at student at D&A is all about.”

I Wish The World Would Sing is now available on all download and streaming platforms.
