Charity initiative to help cushion cost of living

Antonia Burnett from Saving Graces in Dundee is teaming up with Terian Tilston of Terian Tilston Interior Design, by St Andrews to host The Big Cushion Push to raise money for Dundee and Angus Foodbank.

With donations coming in thick and fast, including from retailers across Scotland, the one-day sale will be held at Logie and St John’s (Cross) Church Hall, Shaftesbury Terrace, Dundee on Saturday, December 10 from 11am-5pm.

The event will give visitors a chance to buy a wide range of affordable new cushions, high quality fabric remnants to create new cushions and covers and an array of pre-loved cushions and covers.

Every penny raised will go to the foodbank, with donation points also available on the day.

Antonia said: “As two local interior designers with a mutual love of cushions, Terian and I were contemplating a fun way to raise money for our local community food bank. This winter will be incredibly tough for many, and this is a chance for us all to make a difference. We decided on a cushion sale as we think cushions are a fantastic and inexpensive way to update an interior.

“When people change their décor, their cushions are often the first thing to go and are either resigned to a life in the cupboard or worse, sent to landfill. As long as they’re in good saleable condition, we’d love to take these off your hands and convert them into food on the table this winter. You might even get some Christmas shopping ticked off in the process.”

Ken Linton, Foodbank, welcomed the initiative.

He said: “Growing number of families and individuals are struggling, including pensioners and working families who never thought they would need our support.

"The Cushion Push is such a brilliant and easy way to help – you’re not just helping the environment and sprucing up your home but giving people an opportunity to make a difference to others who need a bit of support right now, and we’d urge everyone to go along, buy if they can, or make a donation.”
