Bingo fundraiser to support local Scouts' jamboree trip

Jamie Brown and his sister Kirsten will be joined by Jay Leitch for at the event, which will take place in SaeManGeum in August.

The three youngsters, from the Arbroath and Montrose District, were among 36 young people selected from 140 East of Scotland applicants after a selection camp last December.

They are amongst 3,200 teenagers from the UK who will join more than 40,000 Scouts from all over the world.

All three have spent the last year fundraising in a variety of ways, including a sponsored marathon, a clairvoyant evening, a car wash and selling paracord craft and homebakes.

They each need to raise at least £3765 to help pay for travel, insurance, camp fees, food and also assist less fortunate Scouts.

Their next fundraiser will be a Prize Bingo Night at Keptie Scout Hall in Arbroath on Friday (November 25) at 7pm and members of the public are being encouraged to go along and support their efforts.

All three are dedicated members of their units and Jamie has been involved with since he was six years old, which is more than 11 years of scouting.

He started at Beavers and moved up through Cubs and Scouts to Explorers. He is currently an active Explorer and a Young Leader with his old Cub Pack and has earned his Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Chief Scout’s Awards. He is currently working towards his Diamond Award.

Kirsten has also been in scouting since she was six and has worked her way through all the sections achieving her Bronze, Silver and Gold chief Scout’s awards on the way. She is currently an Explorer Scout and a Young Leader with her former Scout Troop.

Jay started scouting at the same age and has achieved his Bronze and Silver Chief Scout’s Awards. He is currently working towards his Gold Award.

A district spokesperson said: “ All three are very excited to have been selected to represent the East Scotland Region at the Jamboree, which is going to be an amazing and life-changing experience for all going .”
