The Roods branch applied for a to the company’s Local Engagement Fund, and staff were delighted when they were successful.

Tracey Inglis from the branch said: “This is a fund where we can apply for Co-op branded products.

"It was an idea to place a bench in Kirriemuir after a spate of damage to the ones placed at Kirrie Hill and The Den. When we looked into this it had to go through the council, and they supplied their own bench.

“We contacted Ruth at the community garden who was delighted to receive this bench.”

The garden, at West Hillbank, is open three days a week: Mondays from 10am - 12pm, Wednesdays 1.30pm - 3.30 p.m and Saturdays 11am - 1 pm. Its produce is chemical-free and sold by A Longer Table on Kirrie High Street, as well as shared with volunteers who give their labour to maintain the garden.

New volunteers are welcome and anyone wishing to find out more can get in touch via the group’s Facebook page, by emailing [email protected] or calling Ruth Watson a call on 07496 664588.
