Arbroath club lands windfall from grant scheme
An Arbroath club has received a funding boost from Aldi as part of a campaign to support grassroots sports across Scotland.
AYFC 2012 Maroons was awarded £750 through Aldi Scotland’s annual Scottish Sport Fund.

The company says the fund reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting healthier lifestyles and championing community sport at a local level.
Applications are open throughout the year nationwide across Scotland, inviting clubs to apply for grants of up to £3,000 to support projects that make a meaningful difference on and off the pitch.
The club is one of four in the Angus and Dundee areas to receive grants.
Anchor Volleyball Club was awarded £3,000, the highest funding available.
The club offers affordable volleyball to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. It runs beginner, junior, recreational and competitive sessions for more than 200 members alongside work in local schools and the community.
It is run primarily by volunteers who deliver its coaching, officiating and day-to-day activities.
Dundee Hawkhill Harriers and Tayside Wildcats each received £1,250.
Aldi Scotland introduced its Scottish Sport Fund in 2016 to support individuals of all ages and abilities to get involved in physical activity in their local communities.
Now in its 11th year, the fund has seen Aldi Scotland support more than 650 clubs across Scotland, giving away over £500,000 to improve community access to sport across the country.
Tom Brearey, regional managing director at Aldi Scotland, said: “Over the past decade, the Scottish Sport Fund has enabled us to support hundreds of clubs across Scotland with vital funding to invest in equipment, facilities and resources that help them thrive.
“It’s inspiring to see the difference this makes to clubs like Anchor Volleyball Club and the role it plays in strengthening local communities and encouraging more people to get active.
“We remain committed to backing grassroots sport and supporting even more clubs across the country.”
