Angus-wide youth project in line for national award

The project involved a range of activities across a number of disciplines

An Angus-wide youth organisation has been nominated for a national award in recognition of its work with young people at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Angus Expressive Arts project for being selected as finalists in the National Youth Work Awards, in the Arts & Creativity category.

Held annually, the awards celebrate youth work and the youth workers who make a difference every year in the lives of young people.

They are aimed at individual youth workers, managers, projects or groups for work that is delivered in youth work settings or in other settings, using a youth work approach.

The group has been nominated in the category for Arts & Creativity.

The awards are a mixture of universal, targeted and specialist youth work provision.

Delivered by Angus Council Vibrant Communities Service, Showcase the Street and DD8 Music, the project brought together the diverse experience and skills from each organisation to deliver a valuable project for young people that helped them to explore and express their emotions during what was a very difficult time last year.

The initiative engaged and supported more than 250 young people in a range of activities over a number of disciplines including dance, drama, AI, Music and art.

An Angus Council spokesperson said: “Feedback from young people, schools and parents highlighted that the project made a big difference in young people’s mental health and well-being - engaging them in fun and positive learning experiences.”

The winners will be announced at the National Youth Work Awards ceremony on June 1 in Glasgow.
