Angus scores highly for clean streets after annual audit

The audit is carried out annually by Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Angus Council area emerged with a score of 97%, well above the national average of 89.7%.

The study had been carried out across a sample of 93 streets across different towns.

A council spokesperson said: “That's down to the hard work of our street cleaning teams, community volunteers and of course you.

“ We've got teams of community volunteers out there doing some amazing work. Some have got together through our Adopt-A-Street scheme which helps locals make a difference to their neighbourhood. Groups such as Arbroath Poo Fighters, Brechin Inner Wheel and Angus residents have all signed up to Adopt-A-Street and are helping to keep the areas around their community free of rubbish.

Even some of our younger residents have joined in to help keep their home town of Carnoustie clean! And in November, Keep Scotland Beautiful presented Carnoustie resident, Rhona Hunter, with a Clean Up Scotland Hero award.

“Remember you can put all types of waste in our street bins, including dog poo bags. If you can't find a bin, please take your litter home with you. Street waste includes cigarette butts and packets - please remember to bin your butts too and help keep Angus beautiful!”
