Angus schools facing continued disruption

The warning came on Monday in an update to parents on the situation in local schools from Councillor Ron Sturrock as primary and secondary pupils returned to classes after the Christmas break.

He also said, however, that any disruption will arise from Angus Council’s compliance with changing guidance from the Scottish Government and the NHS.

He said: “I’d like to reassure you that we are continuing to closely follow the advice of Scottish Government and NHS public health experts to make sure we keep everyone safe in our schools.

“I’m sure you’ll appreciate this is still a rapidly changing situation as guidance schools must follow changes regularly.

"This does unfortunately mean that there are challenging times ahead and due to Covid illness and isolation there will be disruption in our schools going forward.

"Please follow our social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) for any updates – this may include information about disruption to school transport, lunch provision and the potential move to remote learning, school closures or partial school closures.”

Mr Sturrock also commended school staff for their support in helping the local authority to comply with the guidance, and for continuing to deliver classes to pupils despite the circumstances.

He said: “We are committed to providing a first-class education to the children in Angus, which we couldn’t do without our amazing staff.

"I can’t thank all our early learning and childcare and school staff, and everyone who works across our wider children and learning service enough for all their hard work.”
