The court closed permanently in 2014 and has been standing empty since then. It has since been taken over, however, by the Arbroath Courthouse Community Trust which is progressing several plans for its future use.

The trust held an open day with guided tours of the building and which offered children the opportunity to paint a picture and have it displayed.

The trust is currently awaiting planning permission from Angus Council to carry out work on the building to progress its propsals.
