With controversy around the RNLI's decision to locate a new Shannon-class all-weather lifeboat to Broughty Ferry instead of Arbroath, the local lifeboat guild has reaffirmed its support for the local crew.

The guild fundraises tirelessly throughout the year to support the crew.

A spokesperson said: “Despite the recent extremely disappointing decision by RNLI headquarters and the ongoing trials and tribulations, the Arbroath Lifeboat Guild are fully supportive of the Arbroath Lifeboat Station and all members of the crew.

“With this in mind the guild will be assisting the crew at the harbour on June 17 to host the Arbroath Lifeboat Day 2023 from 11am to 4pm. Our all-weather lifeboat, the ‘Inchcape’, will be on display on the slipway and the crew will be available to show everyone around this amazing boat.

“Depending upon the time of the tides the Inchcape will be launched and in tandem with the D Class RIB ‘Duncan Fergusson’ will demonstrate rescue procedures in the bay off Beacon Green, right next to the Station.

"This is a fantastic time to take photographs and capture, what might just be one of the last launches from the last slipway launched lifeboat in Scotland.”

All the emergency services will be represented at the event, with interactive attractions, and there will also be a barbecue and members of the Lifeboat Guild will be offering famous cream teas.

President Mo Morrison said: “It’s been a while since we’ve served cream teas, but I’m sure they will be as memorable as ever.”

There will be musical accompaniment throughout the day, a variety of interesting displays, a raffle and tombola and fun and games down at the harbour itself – so it will be a day to remember and an opportunity to celebrate the station’s hard work throughout the year.

With the summer season now here, the shop at the harbour is open every day from 1pm to 3pm and will be open for business throughout the Lifeboat Day celebrations.
